Thank you so much for this post. I too fondly remember these biscuits and have been searching for them for years. I tried the Garabaldi's, and you are right, they are too crisp and too sweet. At least I know know the brand and what happened to them. And if you ever do see them brought back into production, please let us know!

I remember buying these cookies in Los Angeles as a teenager. They were chewy with a hint of lemon. No one online mentions the lemon. I made a recipe today from King Arthur. Too buttery and crisp. I had anticipated the richness of 6 tablespoons of butter and cut back to 4. I use raw butter which acts differently. I wonder if the cookies should be pulled from the oven when they look underdone (14 - 18 minutes). Do you have a suggestion?

I agree. I buy the favorite of all British tea drinkers … the digestive biscuit … at my local World Market as well as a few Halal stores and the Indian stores. I fear the demise of flavorful foods is on the wane.
